Day 8 Akureyri to Reykjahlíð: 87km

Today had a bit of everything; mountains, waterfalls, heat, cold, rain, and wind. I won't go into detail about the initial ascent, except to say; at the bottom of the hill I told myself to take it slow, think of Sisyphus, and go to my happy place.

At the start of the hill

Once on the other side, I was content to continue taking my time and enjoy the scenery. My legs had fully recovered from yesterday, which shocked the hell out of me, but I took a lot of breaks anyway.

Things got interesting when the wind and rain came in. It wasn't too cold and my rain gear held up okay. It wasn't terrible to ride in for 30km, but it was dreary. A full day in these conditions would likely be a problem. Fortunately the clouds cleared up right when I arrived at my destination.

Can't really see the rain here, but it's wet and windy

My destination was the village Reykjahlíð on the lake Mývatn. I'm probably good to ride again tomorrow, but I'm going to take the day off and treat myself to the Mývatn Nature Baths.
