Day 3: Somewhere South of Borgarnes to Varmaland: 43.5 km

I can't believe how well I slept after yesterday's torture. I was still dehydrated in the morning but I didn't want to drink the last of my water before starting. If I didn't find water within the first 10km, I would drink it and take my chances. Fortunately I found a cleanish looking stream right at the 10km mark. No diarrhea so far.

I almost took a recovery day today, but since I was in the middle of nowhere, I had no choice but to try and move on. I wasn't 100%, but I was much better than yesterday. I was back to cruising in the high gears, and the few hills I had today weren't as troublesome as yesterday. In case you're interested, below is the elevation graph from yesterday's ride. I'm surprised I didn't die.

My goal today was just make it 45km to Varmaland campsite and spend the rest of the day recuperating.

The campsite did not disappoint. Aside from having a washroom where I could do makeshift laundry, it had a pool and hot tub, both of which I made generous of.

I met a trio of cyclists at the campsite that were doing their third trip together, this time riding the West Fjords Loop. They previously rode the Great Divide and toured New Zealand. I found it odd that one was from England, one from the U.S. (Georgia), and one from Germany. I can't imagine doing a bike tour with a group, let alone trying to plan it from three different countries.

Tomorrow's planned ride will have many of the same challenges as yesterday, so hopefully I'm rested up and better prepared than yesterday.

Btw - the wind has really picked and is testing the integrity of my ultra-light tent. Let's hope it's still in one piece in the morning.
